The Rwanda-DRC Border

Around 50,000 to 60,000 people a day cross the pedestrian border at Rwanda’s busiest port, Poids Lourd, commonly known as “Petite Barriere.”  The port also provides large wheelchairs for the disabled to cross the border with goods. Watch the video to get a glimpse of border traffic just before closing time in May 2019.

about us

Who are we?

This project was created by students in the Journalism Department, School of Communication at Hong Kong Baptist University as part of a reporting trip to Rwanda in May 2019.

Why Rwanda?

This year marks 25 years since the Rwandan genocide that killed an estimated 800,000 to 1 million Tutsis and moderate Hutus. We travelled to Rwanda to learn about the country and its culture and see how rebuilding and reconciliation efforts have transformed Rwandan society.
